Green’s has provided relief for the post-holiday “credit card blues” with our “Great Values for $10 or Less” selection for the past 15 years. We know how it important it is, particularly in today’s economic climate, to stretch every dollar. The trick is to sort through the mediocre, and yes down right bad wines, to find those diamonds in the rough that are, for whatever reason, under priced.
The Green’s tasting team (Green’s Wine Director Michael Bishop and our three Wine Consultants) spent the past four months tasting through hundreds of samples to find the highest quality possible. We were able to find many great close-outs this year. By that I mean wholesalers who had too much inventory and were willing to part with wine at an unusually low price, sometimes 50% off! Green’s was happy to help. We have passed these amazing values onto you, our customers. All have been taste-tested and meet the Green’s standard for quality in their price range.
We invite you to come to one of our centrally located stores at 2612 Buford Highway, N.E. or 739 Ponce de Leon Ave. (near City Hall East) and partake of Atlanta’s best wine values. No other wine store in Atlanta goes to this much work to save you money. Green’s Wine Director, Michael Bishop

L de Lyeth Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma Co. 2007
Green’s Cash Price: $9.99
Lyeth is a California winery whose history really began in Bordeaux. Chip Lyeth established the winery in 1981 after touring that region. He was so impressed by the complexity achieved by blending Cabernet Sauvignon with the other major Bordeaux varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec. and Petit Verdot), now known as the Meritage style, that he started his winery based on making “Bordeaux style” California wine.
While excellent wine, relatively few of us have heard of the term “Meritage.” Beginning in 2003, the winery decided to introduce a varietally branded wine, called “L de Lyeth” at a lower price than the Meritage, to showcase the winery’s name with a more familiar wine, Cabernet Sauvignon.
Well, all of this sounds like “inside baseball” but hear me out. The fruit sources for the Meritage and Cabernet Sauvignon wines are, shall we say, not dissimilar. You have the same winemaker, Bill Arbios, making the two wines. By the way, he has been at the winery since its inception. (Now that’s what you call continuity.) The L de Lyeth Cabernet Sauvignon is about 50% lower in price than the Lyeth Meritage.
Herb, tobacco, and cassis aromas- this medium-bodied wine is a blend od “Bordeaux” and California. A touch of coffee on the palate as well as soft black fruit and very soft, perfect drinking now. - Green’s Wine Buyer

“Stella is an excellent source for tasty wines under $10 a bottle. Importer Leonardo LoCascio personally selects the lots that a small group of partner wineries bottle on his behalf. The model of importer-created wines is on the rise, and quite frankly it is difficult if not impossible for most wineries to compete at this price point under a traditional business model. Stella excels in the varieties that are indigenous to the various regions where the wines are made. The Trebbiano and Montepulciano from Abruzzo are tasty…”-The Wine Advocate

It's Back……
Park Lane Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 Sonoma County Green’s Cash Price: $14.99
This was one of our best selling California Cabernets last year. There is no real Park Lane Winery. As a condition of purchase, I can't tell you where it's from. You have obviously heard we are in a recession. Expensive California wine sales are down. A winery can cope with this situation one of two ways. They can lower the price on the real brand and hope to “juice” sales. However, this could permanently harm its image and commercial value. OR they can make a faux label and sell the wine off cheaper without harming their real brand name. Park Lane is a product of the latter alternative. You could spend $40 at the winery for this wine, and I can't tell you which one it is, or $14.99 at Green's. Same Juice. Take your pick.
The grapes for this wine are sourced from the Alexander Valley and Chalk Hill areas of Sonoma County. This is “high cotton” for a $15 Cab. Hints of oak mingle with its cassis flavor. Very good fruit concentration, it is delicious now.- Michael Bishop, Green's Wine Buyer
“I can unequivocally state that 2007… is one of the three top vintages of the decade… It is a brilliant vintage across the board for all varietals…”

Morgan Pinot Noir 12 Clones Santa Lucia Highlands 2007 Green’s Cash Price: $23.99
“…ripe and relatively deeply pitched nose of black cherry, raspberry and a hint of cassis is impressively complex as it merges gracefully into nicely detailed, intense and well-focused medium-bodied flavors that possess as much depth as the nose on the lingering, balanced and attractively dry finish. Lovely and while not necessarily an elegant wine, there is good character and power. It also delivers fine value plus it will age. Recommended for both quality and value. 90 points.”- Burghound.com

Dona Paula Estate Malbec Lujan de Cuyo 2008 Green’s Cash Price: $12.99
This estate's wine first came to my attention last year when the 2007 vintage earned 90 point scores in both The Wine Spectator and Wine Advocate. We acquired a sample, tasted it, and promptly went ballistic over the high quality of the wine. Unfortunately, there is no more of that vintage left at the supplier level.
Almost with sadness, we accepted a bottle of the 2008 vintage to try, not really expecting the same quality. It is every bit as good. Read the The Wine Advocate review: “…pleasing bouquet of spice box, incense, and black cherry. This leads to a medium to full-bodied, plush wine with layered black cherry and blueberry flavors, light tannin, good concentration, and a fruit-filled finish.”
Smooth, soft, and silky on the palate, this mellow tasting Malbec is from Agentina's prime quality district for this grape, Mendoza. A steal at 6.99!-Green's Wine Buyer
Que Syrah…Shiraz!
The Perfect Hearty Winter Red Wine
What's the difference between Syrah and Shiraz? Nothing, it's the same grape. Australia and South Africa choose to call it Shiraz while the rest of the world has named it Syrah. Whatever you call it, there is no better wine when cold weather strikes. Big, hearty, and bold, this flavorful red will warm the cockles of your heart.
Chateau Routas is located in the heart of Provence, between the French Riviera on the Mediterranean coast and the foothills of the Alps. Possessing a “meaty” rich, black fruit flavor, this Syrah is reminiscent of one that would hail from France's northern Rhone Valley. A superb value!-Green's Wine Buyer
Nice black fruit and spice bouquet. Plummy and meaty on the palate with a hint of mint, this has ungodly complexity and enjoyment for a Shiraz priced at this level.-Green's Wine Buyer
Luchador Shiraz South. Australia 2007 Green’s Cash Price: $15.99
The fruit for this wine (100% Shiraz) comes predominately from the Barossa valley, the “Napa Valley” of Australia. New oak, hints of coconut, and plum greet you in the bouquet. Rich supple black fruit combined with licorice and mild tannins are the flavor components of this wine. This wine has concentration and intensity without being heavy. - Rated 90 points and recommended in the “Value reds $20 and under” by The Wine Advocate.
Bonserine Cote Rotie Sarrasine 2003
Originally $41.99 Green’s Cash Sale Price: $29.99
“Fleshy plum, fig and blackberry fruit is backed by roasted coffee bean and tar notes. Avoids being jammy or soft thanks to the olive-, iron- and lavender-driven finish…93 points.”-The Wine Spectator (Available at Buford Highway Store Only)
Ogier La Rosine Syrah VDP des Collines Rhodaniennes Green’s Cash Price: $29.99
So what's the difference between Syrah grown in Cote Rotie and another grown just outside of the appellation? About $30! The vineyards La Rosine are sourced from are just over the border from the Cote Rotie district, and display many of the same characteristics of its more famous neighbor. Ogier is a tiny estate consisting of 15 acres. La Rosine is a bottling of pure Syrah from vineyards located between Côte Rôtie and Condrieu and average 15 years in age. This wine displays the classic Côte Rôtie aromas and flavors of smoked meats, ripe plums and spice. This is an awesome wine from the northern Rhône, and is less than half the price of a bottle of Côte Rôtie.-Green's Wine Buyer (Available at Buford Highway Store Only)
